The Dark Katie Rises by Corset
Corset is a long time reader of my silly little webcomic and sent me this a few months back. She also did a lovely writeup of Gregor on her blog which I found by randomly googling “gregor comics” and seeing what came up.
She’s asked me to point you to her DeviantArt page, which I do with great joy. She’s got some good stuff there and she’s definitely progressing as an artist.
This is the last week of the hiatus! I just want to thank all of you for sticking around! The last two storyarcs were written as I went, but I wrote this one out completely before I even started drawing one page, so I’m very excited to see how you guys like it. I should have enough pages done by next Monday that I can update twice a week. I’m thinking Mondays and Thursdays. If I can maintain the same level of speed that I’ve had so far I should be able to stay a month a head and still update twice a week. I AM, however, getting rid of colors for the time being. It just takes so much time to color and shade everything; whereas greyscale allows me to use the same tone for several objects and your mind fills in the color.
Well, I can see Dark Katie making SOMETHING rise, all right …
… aw hell, did I say what I was thinking out loud, again? Dammit.

Nice pic, Katie! And after looking at your DA page, it’s got me thinking. I’ve had a DA login for a while but only so I could look at other people’s art, even if it was flagged as Mature (since you have to be logged in to set the filter). Last week or so I have started sketching every day to try and build my skills a bit, rely less on tracing and more on freehand (part of my fan art was freehand, just not much of it).
Perhaps I should actually set up my DA page, like you have, and start posting my sketches? Might be an easier way to get feedback from some of you. Whatcha think?

Deviant art is actually a great way to get feedback. When you post a piece you can actually request critiques on it so the other artists in the community can offer advice and their two cents.

And Wolf, go for it. I really enjoyed your turn at Gregor. It’d be fun to see more of it.

If it’s more fan art you want, JW, check out squidrow.com, I was doing practice sketches for faces, and one of them got away from me, kept adding details til next thing I knew, I had another fan art ready to send in. Just follow that URL to the main page, her posting of my art is like the second item down.

Well, it always was … but it was empty. Now it has a profile and I’ve started uploading. Putting up the fan art I’ve done so far (original pencils, and the finished versions), then I’ll put up some of the sketches I’ve been practicing with.
Give the artists amongst you something to REALLY laugh at. Watching me draw – it’s kinda like watching a newborn giraffe taking its first steps. You don’t wanna laugh, but you just can’t help it. 😀
I’m kind of bummed out that you’re going black and white. I’ve always liked your use of color. While I may be disappointed, I’ll still keep reading for the wonderful story and great art! 🙂
Thanks. I’d prefer to stay color, but it’s just too time intensive. If I can get enough success from this that it’s my job then I can go back to color, but for the time being I’ll have to stick to tones.
And we can help him achieve that goal – vote! You realize just 10 people voting every day gets 300 votes for the month and pretty much guarantees the comic stays top 200? Round up 20 people, and that’s 600 votes, gets you above the 140 mark usually.
Make the goal 30 people – that’s 900 votes, which most months is enough to make top 100.
And that means even though the comic doesn’t have a banner on the list (that’s for top 10), it’s still on the first page that comes up, and gets seen a lot more.
